I am stunned and deeply grieved for Dan. I, like you, don't know him well having only exchanged a few emails with him but I have to admit that it's far easier for me to believe that this was a plot by his wife and their pastor that came to an unjust (for Dan) conclusion then it is to believe that he was actually guilty. It's enough to make you really want to believe in hell, eh? However, for Dan, for the next 18 months, it'll be close enough thanks to the unloving Xians he tangled with/was married to. Be good to yourself Dan, and be careful.

Thanks, John, for your kind words. I know Dan appreciates any kind words he can get.
All the best to you as well.

I meant to but forgot to say thanks to you Mike for posting this update on Dan. I was wondering when and how I'd know what was going down with him and while this is certainly sad news I appreciate your letting us know. All the best to you John

Certainly sounds like the height of injustice to me.
Talk about ammunition against the "invisible friend" model of God - on the one hand, say "God's gonna get you!" yet on the other, be the instrument - all anyone else sees is the [human] politics.

Mike,
It is official, simply ecclesia is now http://simplyecclesia.wordpress.com. I was looking to see if you still had me on your blogroll. You do but it is the old address. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind changing the link. thank you.
I am cleaning up the site and hopefully restarting it. Take care (if you need to delete this comment because it is off topic that is alright by me.)

Thanks, David, I was thinking about that today as I saw two test posts in my Google Reader. I'll fix the link. Thanks for reminding me.

I have no knowledge as to his guilt or innocence, but I do know even if he was guilty and even if he ought to be sentenced he ought not be treated with hatred. Regardless of his guilt or innocence I hope things go better for him in the future and that he gets through this season and comes out able to pick up the pieces and start life again. I don't remember, and haven't looked back at the first post, as to if he remained a believer through this or not? Do you know?

One of the things that initiated all this was his doubt, so he is no longer a believer.

Dan,
I just heard a few minutes ago what was done to you. I'm so sorry.
No. I'm beyond sorry. I'm sick. I'm... I don't have words for this.
To everyone who reads this, I know Dan Silverman.
I know that he is a good man, a good friend and a good father. He is a man of incredible integrity and honesty.
Oh man, I'm sick.
In a tiny way, I've been where you are. But, nothing like THIS monstrous, obscene injustice.
There was a time when I too started to wonder... To think... To ask questions...
I went through a lot because of that, but nothing like what you've been through. Nothing. Oh man, nothing like this.
The sickness among Baptists is so bad... that... It's gotten to the point that every time I read what Christ said to/about the Pharisees... I think of the legalists, the 'Independant Baptists'.
I am speachless.
If there is anything that I can do to help, let me know. Anything at all. I'm serious.
I am so sorry that they did this to you. It makes me sick. There's nothing that I can say that will make it better, except this:
YOU HAVE FRIENDS

Thanks for the update, Mike. Personally, I thought he was innocent. But, then I haven't met his wife. I would pay a lot of money to talk to her for five minutes. I don't think I will need any more time. If we go by the way he described her, she is either misguided or a real piece of work.
Personally, I believe that regardless of there being a God or not, justice usually happens sooner or later. If this woman did frame Dan, she will pay one way or another. Life has a way of giving each of us what we deserve.
All the best to you as well.
All the best to you
